{"id":26419,"date":"2024-07-26T11:16:32","date_gmt":"2024-07-26T15:16:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rtoero.ca\/?p=22868"},"modified":"2025-09-24T15:20:51","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T19:20:51","slug":"premier-sommet-international-feuille-de-route-pour-un-meilleur-avenir-du-vieillissement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ententefoundation.ca\/fr\/premier-sommet-international-feuille-de-route-pour-un-meilleur-avenir-du-vieillissement\/","title":{"rendered":"Premier Sommet international &#8211; feuille de route pour un meilleur avenir du vieillissement\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>RTOERO\u2019s first <a href=\"https:\/\/agingsummit.rtoero.ca\/\">Future of Aging Summit<\/a>, sponsored by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johnson.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Johnsons Inc.<\/a>, brought together more than 200 participants from a range of public sector and non-profit organizations, including RTOERO members, to share knowledge and envision what we need to do today for a better future of aging.<\/p>\n\n<p>The event provided the chance to learn together from 14 globally recognized aging experts from nine countries and share ideas and experiences through a co-design session to map out concrete actions that will create a better future of aging for all.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key areas of focus for a better future of aging<\/h2>\n\n<p>Dreaming big is critical to reimagine a bright future. The co-design session took participants through a series of activities to arrive at visions and commitments, which were captured by\u00a0 Jordana Globerman, a graphic facilitator. The graphic summarizes the ideas of a diverse group of professionals working in planning, community programs, healthcare and more, as well as older adults with experiential knowledge navigating the current systems.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ententefoundation.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Future-of-aging-co-design-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Illustration showing vision and commitments from Future of Aging summit. The text on the graphic is described in the post. \" class=\"wp-image-22857\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Take a life-course approach<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start young to ensure healthy aging.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integrate healthy aging concepts into the curriculum.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage intergenerational connections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote proactive health measures throughout life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Read more: <br\/><a href=\"https:\/\/ententefoundation.ca\/why-we-need-to-take-a-life-course-approach-to-healthy-aging\/\">Why we need to take a life-course approach to healthy aging<\/a><\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create 360\u00b0 communities<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Develop age-friendly communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plan and design walkable, mixed-use neighbourhoods.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage lifelong learning and active lifestyles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use community navigators to support aging populations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Innovate for better housing options<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start with small-scale projects for impact.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote affordable, flexible, and safe housing options.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implement age-friendly housing models.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage in community-wide efforts for better living environments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Build awareness<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use events like Seniors Month to raise awareness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage communities with panels, discussions, and activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote age-friendly community initiatives and champions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Take political action<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gain political attention for aging issues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Introduce senior advocates at every level.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foster grassroots movements to protect and support the rights of seniors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Read more:<br\/><a href=\"https:\/\/ententefoundation.ca\/how-grassroots-movements-help-create-a-better-future-for-aging\/\">From grassroots advocacy to systemic change<\/a><\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Redirect funds and invest in innovation<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emphasize investment in health and social systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support grassroots health initiatives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure older adults are visible in media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Address the health service provider gender imbalance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage innovation in aging-related services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explore age-tech and one-on-one digital support options to improve access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ensure actions are informed by research<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Conduct comprehensive research to evaluate current systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use findings to inform policy and practice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prioritize multi-year, intergenerational research projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Coordinate through a national strategy<\/h2>\n\n<p>The focus areas illustrated on the graphic all feed into a cohesive national strategy for aging\u2014the coordinating element that\u2019s necessary to set standards and ensure equitable experiences for older adults across the country.<\/p>\n\n<p>RTOERO has <a href=\"https:\/\/rtoero.ca\/giving-back\/advocacy\/\">advocated for a National Seniors Strategy<\/a> for a number of years.
